    Improving Stakeholder Participation at URA

    The study investigated on how to improve stakeholder participation at URA with a case study done at Malaba One Stop Border Post. The study adopted a cross sectional research Design and the use of quatitative data collection and analysis. Asample of 93 respondednts was determined. Both stratified and simple random sampling techniques were applied to select respondents for this study. Stratified sampling was applied by grouping respondents in different categories that included; URA staff, Staff of other Government agencies, Clearing firms and Logistics and Transport companies. The Reserch used self-administered questionnaires. The study found limited involvement of majority of URA stakeholders when implementing projects at Malaba One-Stop Post. The study found out that Malaba One-Stop Border Post needs to deploy among other strategies; regular monitoring, consultation with community representatives, availing back ground information to stakeholders before they participate, building strong relationships, and involvement of stakeholders in all project stages. The study concludes that URA needs to put up avenues of ensuring that stakeholders' views are taken up before implementation of any project hence reducing on bias and non-compliance of stakeholders. The study recommends stakeholder communication, effective information systems, quick passing on of clear, accurate and understandable information, engagement of stakeholders at all stages of stakeholder participation, as well as representation of stakeholders in any project shall go a long way in improving stakeholder participation and positive consideration of all projects by URA stakeholders.
