    Contract Management Practices and Performance of Construction Firms in Juba- South Sudan.

    The study intended to examine the relationship between contract management practices, environmental dynamism and firm performance of construction firms in Juba South Sudan with the objectives of examining the; nature of contract management practices, relationship between contract management practices and performance and also to assess the moderating role of environmental dynamism in the relationship between contract management practices and firm performance. Using simple random sampling technique and Krejcie and Morgan (1970) sample size determination table, a sample of 123 construction firms was determined out of a total population of 180 fully registered and licensed construction firms operating in Juba City. Out of 123 construction firms, 79 firms were able to complete the questionnaires and return them to the researcher, which yielded a response rate of 64.2%. The data collected was analyzed using SPSS version 25. Analysis of reliability of the study variables revealed Cronbach’s Alpha coefficients of all study variables to be above 0.7 which is recommended. Descriptive results show that construction firms in Juba, South Sudan apply the following contract management practices; cultivating a contract repository, standardizing contract management, control, interaction, adaptation and planning. Correlation results confirmed that contract management practices significantly and positively associate with firm performance. Hierarchical Regression results also revealed that contract management practices directly and significantly influence firm performance. Concerning firm size, the findings show a positive moderation effect (Beta=0.045), implying that the relationship between contract management practices and firm performance improves with firm size. Contract management practices lead to greater performance outcomes in large size firms as compared to small size firms. However, this moderation effect is statistically not significant (P=0.611). The moderation effect of environmental dynamism on the relationship between contract management practices and firm performance is not substantiated. These findings have policy and managerial implication on construction firms. It is therefore recommended that construction firms in Juba South Sudan should put more emphasis on interacting well with various stakeholders that include internal staff, suppliers, government, NGOs and other related agencies and also ensuring that there are standard operating procedures in whichever construction activity is in place for the purpose of improving firm performance.
