- ItemPsychological Capital, Career Adaptability and Graduate Employability in Uganda.(Makerere University Business School, 2025-10-27) Konde, AbubakariDue to job market rivalry, one of the biggest issues facing most graduates in Uganda is employability. Some graduates have recognized the value of career adaptation mechanisms and psychological capital resources as a means of assimilating into the dynamic labor market and achieving their academic goals. The primary purpose of the study was to examine the connection between psychological capital, career adaptability, and graduate employability at Ugandan universities. The study was guided by the following specific objectives; to examine the relationship between psychological capital and graduate employability, to examine the relationship between psychological capital and career adaptability, to examine the relationship between career adaptability and graduate employability, to examine the mediating effect of career adaptability in the relationship between psychological capital and graduate employability in Ugandan Universities. To achieve the study’s objectives, quantitative, cross-sectional research design method was applied. Consideration was given to 371 responders from the four chosen universities. The SPSS application version 26 was used to analyze and report the data in accordance with the guiding objectives of the study. The correlation results showed a significant positive relationship between psychological capital and graduate employability, psychological capital and career adaptability, career adaptability and graduate employability. According to the results of the Medigraph tests, the relationship between psychological capital and graduate employability was partially mediated by the graduate’s career adaptability. The regression analysis revealed that psychological capital and career adaptability jointly predicted up to 46.3% of the total variance in graduate employability. Hence the remaining 53.7% of predictors of graduate employability is accounted for by other factors that are not part of this study. The findings of this study recommends that university management, the Ministry of Education, policy makers should integrate psychological capital development into higher education curricula, they should also endeavor to enhance career adaptability skills through career Services. The career guidance departments should offer targeted training to build career adaptability dimensions, also, graduates should be encouraged to engage in continuous learning and self-improvement strategies that foster psychological capital and career adaptability. Therefore, by examining the relationship between psychological capital and graduate employability and identifying the mediating role career adaptability plays in this relationship, the study contributes to the broadening debate on graduate employability and its predictors.
