Assessing Project Implementation Success of Lend Xs Project of Centenary Bank.
(Makerere University Business School, 2025-08-23) Kahirimbanyi Jimmy
The purpose of this study was to assess the implementation success, challenges, and strategies for improving the implementation of the Lend XS Project at the Centenary Bank Lyantonde Branch. The study was motivated by the project's inability to fully achieve its intended objectives, including increasing the number of loans processed per credit officer, reducing loan processing time, minimizing reliance on manual procedures, and improving overall operational efficiency. A quantitative cross-sectional research design was adopted. The study targeted 176 respondents comprising agricultural loan borrowers and technical staff, from whom a sample of 123 respondents was selected using stratified simple random sampling. Primary data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS Version 25). Descriptive statistics, including means and standard deviations, were used to analyze and present the findings. The findings revealed that the Lend XS Project had achieved a generally satisfactory level of implementation success, particularly through strong top management support, stakeholder satisfaction, effective risk management practices, and timely project execution. However, respondents identified several challenges affecting implementation, including inadequate problem-solving processes, limited expertise in change management, insufficient project resources, unclear implementation strategies, and weaknesses in quality management systems. The study further established that improving project planning, strengthening communication among project stakeholders, enhancing top management commitment, ensuring adequate budgeting and resource allocation, simplifying project processes, recognizing outstanding project team members, and promoting team-building initiatives are essential strategies for improving project implementation success. The study concludes that effective leadership, sound planning, adequate resource allocation, and stakeholder engagement are critical determinants of successful implementation of ICT-based banking projects. It recommends that Centenary Bank strengthen project governance, invest in staff capacity building, improve change management practices, and enhance communication and monitoring mechanisms to ensure successful implementation of future projects.
