- ItemPerformance of Outsourced cleaning services at the ministry of the east African community affairs.(Makerere University Business School, 2017-01-09) Justin BimanywaThis study examined the level of performance of outsourced cleaning contracts at the Ministry of East African Community Affairs. The specific objectives were to examine the level of outsourced cleaning contracts at the Ministry of East African Community Affairs, to examine challenges faced by outsourced cleaning contracts at the Ministry of East African Community Affairs and to propose strategies for improving outsourced cleaning contracts at the Ministry of East African Community Affairs. Data was collected from 92 respondents from the Ministry of East African Community Affairs concerning Performance of Outsourced Cleaning contracts using a self-administered questionnaire. The data was analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Scientist (SPSS). Results indicated that the following factors are strong measures for performance level of outsourced contracts which include user complaints have reduced since we started using this supplier, the outsourced services are free from defects, our outsourced provider is cooperative in problem solving, supplier charges fair prices compared to others, supplier is flexible. Furthermore the study indicated that the following factors are some of the challenges that are faced by outsourced contracts and these include; incorrect vendor selection has led to budget inefficiencies, the cost of outsourcing specific activities is cheaper than the cost of performing those specific activities internally, vender selection process considers the nature of transfer risk and management both parties do not understand the terms and conditions of the service level agreement, there isn't effective support and involvement by management over control of outsourced vendor. The study indicated that the following are some of the strategies for improving outsourced cleaning contracts and these include: communication is important in the knowledge transfer during out sourcing function, staff training is important in the knowledge transfer during out sourcing function, implementation methodologies is important in the knowledge transfer during out sourcing function, appointment of contract managers to effectively manage the outsourced contracts, training of contract managers to effectively manage the outsourced contracts, management should have confidence in the supplier, for successful outsourcing relationship and management should have frequent formal review meetings
