- ItemProject Planning, Project Funding, Stakeholder Engagement, and Project Performance in Microfinance Deposit-Taking Institutions in Uganda. A Case of Agricultural Finance Projects in Selected Microfinance Deposit-Taking Institutions in Kampala.(2025-06-10) Ddamba BrianThis research study examined the relationship between project planning, project funding, stakeholder engagement and project performance in microfinance deposit-taking institutions in Uganda based on a study of agricultural finance projects in selected MDIs. This study was initiated because of the continuous issues faced in agricultural finance projects which hinder the success levels of the projects. The study adopted a cross-sectional survey design using quantitative approaches. 32 agricultural finance projects within MDIs were considered for this study. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire delivered by the researcher at different MDIs. Analysis was done using SPSS computer software version 25 in which correlation and regression analysis was conducted. Pearson’s correlation statistics indicated positive and significant relationships between project planning and project performance, project funding and project performance plus stakeholder engagement and project performance. The regression analysis revealed that project planning, project funding and stakeholder engagement had a combined effect (Adjusted R Square= .588) on project performance and of the 3 variables, project funding had a better effect on project performance (Beta= .646) compared to Beta=.427 and Beta .157 for project planning and stakeholder engagement. Project funding was found to be a stronger predictor of project performance compared to project planning and stakeholder engagement. The study recommends that project managers in Microfinance Deposit-Taking Institutions (MDIs) prioritize detailed project planning before initiating agricultural finance projects. It was also suggested that financial officers should ensure that agricultural finance projects are adequately funded from the outset. It was also suggested that MDI leadership should focus on creating policies that support continuous and strategic stakeholder engagement throughout the project lifecycle.
