(Makerere University Business School, 2025-07-07) Bigira Mbabazi Innocent
This study is a focused investigation into how strategic partnerships and team efficacy affect the Performance of water and sanitation projects in Mbarara City. Water and sanitation projects, though Vital for reducing waterborne diseases, often encounter significant challenges, such as delays and Cost overruns, which undermine their effectiveness. Strategic partnerships are essential for overcoming these obstacles, as they can improve project performance through collaborative Efforts. Although extant literature suggests that persistent poor project performance could be attributed to issues in strategic partnerships and team efficacy, there is limited understanding of these factors in the context of water and sanitation projects in Mbarara City, hence this study. This study adopted a cross-sectional design using 32 projects that were drawn from a population of 35 projects. The sample size was determined using Krejcie and Morgan Tables (1970). The Instrument was tested for reliability and validity; data was analyzed using SPSS version 26 and Results presented based on the study objectives. A multiple regression analysis was used to test the hypotheses of the direct effect relationships. Findings indicate that Team Efficacy is a significant Predictor of Project Performance (Beta=.483, P<.01). The results also indicate that Strategic Partnerships significantly predict PP (Beta= 0.413, P<.01). Finally, the analysis indicates that Team Efficacy and Strategic Performance contribute 59.5% (Adjusted R-squared = 0.595) to the Project Performance. The results indicate that Team Efficacy and Strategic Partnerships are Significant predictors of Project Performance. Therefore, government and industry policymakers should ensure that water and sanitation projects in Mbarara City integrate strategic partnership initiatives into their strategic plans. In addition, Managers at NWSC should prioritize activities that contribute to the smooth construction, operation, and maintenance of water projects within the communities by supporting the community Members who are the beneficiaries to ensure increased participation and local consumption of clean and safe water.
