The study concentrated on investigating the working capital management practices of GBK Group of Companies. Three main objectives guided the investigation namely; to assess effectiveness of working capital management practices at GBK, to identify challenges with improving effectiveness of working capital management practices, and to suggest appropriate strategies to be implemented by the company to overcome these challenges. Data were collected at a single snapshot. This design was complemented by a quantitative approach, utilizing questionnaires as a collection tool. SPSS was used to undertake the descriptive analysis. The results showed that working capital management in GBK was ineffective. This was largely demonstrated by low scores in such aspects as payment to suppliers on time, sufficient funds to meet short-term debt obligations and impending operating overheads, alternative sources of cash in case of deficit. In terms of the challenges, conclusively it can be advanced that the widely known challenges that affect working capital management in many organizations, are the same challenges that GBK is facing. In regard to strategies to improve and implement efficient accounts receivable and payables management systems, and devise means to reduce costs associated with working capital management were advanced.
