Abstract
The study attempted to explore and explain the relationship between project monitoring, evaluation practices and performance of youth livelihood project in Wakiso. The objectives of the study included i) to find out the monitoring and evaluation tools used in the youth livelihood projects; ii) to analyze the measures of project success in the youth livelihood projects; iii) to study the relationship between project monitoring and project success A cross section quantitative approach was used to collect data from the youth livelihood projects in Wakiso district. A self-administered questionnaire was used to collect data and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings revealed significant positive relationship between project monitoring and project success; however, the relationship between project evaluation and project success was not statistically significant. The study concludes that project monitoring practices influence the success of youth livelihood projects while project evaluation practices do not influence project success. The study recommends the use of standard monitoring and evaluation tools such as cost and budget comparisons, stakeholder assessment among others to ensure the success of youth livelihood projects in Uganda. In areas for further study, the researcher recommends that the scope of the study is widened to cover other districts.
